IOF European Union policy initiatives and publications
One of IOF’s primary missions is to drive policy change worldwide. In Europe, IOF strives to make osteoporosis and fracture prevention a health care priority in all EU member states. Its first initiative to catalyse policy initiatives in the European Union (EU) is represented by the landmark ‘Report on Osteoporosis in the European Community: Action for Prevention’ published by the European Commission in 1998. This was the first report to describe, and offer solutions to, the impending fragility fracture crisis in Europe.
Since 1998, IOF has published several influential policy reports (listed below), and (from 1998 to 2015) organized regular meetings at the EU parliament in Brussels with the former European Union Osteoporosis Consultation Panel and the European Parliament Osteoporosis Interest Group.
Broken bones, broken lives: A roadmap to solve the fragility fracture crisis in Europe: a new report outlining the burden and solutions to the fragility fracture crisis in six major European countries. |
